Hopkins native Milton G. Schafer Sr., 95, of Allegan, passed away Friday, March 4, at Allegan General Hospital.
He was born Oct. 25, 1920, in Hopkins, the son of the late Henry E. and Elfrieda (Puschel) Schafer. He was part of a big family, being one of 14 children. Milt was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and worked 30 years for Rockwell International. Milt especially loved to garden and fish.
Milt is survived by his 5 children: Brenda and Dave Grimm, Carol and Bill Houser, Vicki and Dave Emmons, Roxann and Ken VanHorn, and Leland Schafer; a daughter-in-law, Bernie Schafer; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren, a sister, Emma Essenburgh; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; his son, Milton Schafer Jr.; seven sisters; and five brothers.
Friends may meet with the family from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 7, at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Allegan.
