Services will be Friday for Cindy Mellon, formerly of Wayland

photo_20150119_WM0028593_0_mellon_photo_20150119Cynthia M. Mellon (Lundberg), age 77 of Grand Rapids, formerly of Wayland, died Sunday, Jan. 18.

Cindy grew up on the west side, went to Oakleigh Grade School and graduated in 1955 from Union High School. Her younger years were spent at Mission Covenant Church, where she was confirmed. After working at Michigan National Bank for several years, she married and had four sons. After her boys got older, she worked part time as a nurse’s aide at Porter Hills, Kent Community and Christian Rest Home, which she enjoyed a lot.

In 1981, she married Don Mellon. Don and Cindy were members of the First Evangelical Covenant Church.

She is survived by her husband, Donal; children: Donald R. (Karen) Van Houten, David J. (Kris) Van Houten, Daniel E. (Lora) Van Houten, Timothy M. (Connie) Van Houten; 2 step-daughters, Kristin Mellon and Marylynn (Charlie) Morton; 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; her sister Alyce Sides; several nieces and nephews, and special niece Jane Tucker; special cousin Donna (Mel) Peterson; and many more cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Lundberg and Rose (Lundberg) Bennett, brother-in-law Warren Sides and grandson Jonathon Van Houten.

Friends may visit with family from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at the First Evangelical Covenant Church, 1933 Tremont Boulevard Northwest, Grand Rapids 49504, where her service will be held at 11 a.m. with Pastor Craig Swanson officiating.
