Glenda Schwartz, died at her home Saturday. She was 82.
She was a woman who loved her family deeply and completely, hardworking, strong-willed, and compassionate—someone who always saw the best in others. Glenda had a special gift for building people up, helping them recognize their strengths, and reminding them of their worth.
She shared an especially close and cherished bond with her grandson, Austin Risner, whom she fiercely protected and adored. Family was the center of Glenda’s life, and she rarely sat still—keeping order in her home, making sure everyone had enough to eat, and ensuring those around her felt safe and cared for.
Glenda never forgot those who had gone before her, faithfully tending to their grave sites, placing flowers, and visiting them regularly.
Despite living with chronic illness and pain, Glenda faced each day with strength and determination. She woke every morning, made her bed, and continued to serve others, making sure their needs were met.
In her later years, Glenda found joy in traveling and spending time with her children, her many grandchildren, and her brother, Teddy. She was a wonderful cook who almost always had something sweet baking in the oven. She especially loved ice cream and pineapple—simple pleasures that brought her happiness.
She is survived by her brother, Teddy Winebarger (Suzy); children Harley Gene Schwartz Jr. (Tracy), Sheryl Schwartz, Michael Schwartz (Cindee), Steven Schwartz (Melanie), Jackie Van DenBroeck (Chuck), Teriena Schwartz (Nan), Christopher Schwartz (Shelly), Shanna Risner; niece, Laura Winebarger (Kerry). Glenda was blessed with 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Gene Schwartz Sr.; parents James and Beulah Winebarger; brother, Donny Winebarger; sons David Sprowl Jr. and David Schwartz; granddaughter, Jenny Schwartz.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home, 312 N. Main St., Wayland.
In honor of Glenda and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice.
