Gary Allen Statler, age 61, died Sunday, Jan. 3, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Gary loved all things outdoors, including hunting, camping, trapping, fishing, snowmobiling and tending his vegetable garden. He was not one to sit still and loved tinkering. This was reflected in his career choice as a mechanic at Wayland Chevrolet.

Gary loved spending time and teasing his grandsons and just being together as a family.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Diane Statler; his children Heather Standish, Brandon (Robin) Statler, Elizabeth (Trevor) Bodell, Katie (Shawn) Misak; grandsons Tyler, Leland, Drew, Graydon, Cole, Emmett, Wyatt, Felix; his siblings Ben (Angela Fuchs) Statler, Julie (Ron) Wynsma, David Statler; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Helen Statler.

Visitation with the family will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at Unity Baptist Church, 3514 12th St., Wayland. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at Unity Baptist Church with visitation from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.

Gary will be laid to rest at Hooker Cemetery. In memory of Gary and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
