Barry E. Mathews of Shelbyville, died Tuesday, May 19, at the Magnum Care Nursing Home in Hastings. He was 61.

Mr. Mathews was born September 14, 1953, in Atlanta, Ga., the son of Eugene and Louise (Price) Mathews.

Surviving are his wife: Dorothy “Dottie”; five children: Gavin and Rachel Mathews, Carl and Danyel Long, Chance and Kim Mathews, Kellie and Chuck Brooks, Kristie and James Willis; 15 grandchildren: Evan Douglas, Dakota, Devin, Drew, Alana, Ansleigh, Wyatt, Joe, Andrea, Anthony, Michael, Matt, Makey, Andrew; one great granddaughter: Ayla; three brothers and three sisters; his mother-in-law: Jo Brand; four brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Joann and Wayne Carpenter, Raymond and Rhea Brand, Bill and Carol Brand, Tom and Martha Brand; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Andy Brand.

Friends may meet with the family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 22, at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. Interment will be in South View Cemetery, Covington, Ga.
