The Goodwill Donation Center at 1124 W. Superior St. in Wayland is closing and Shear Concepts next door has purchased the building.

A phone call to the donation center, which has been open for seven years, produced a message that the phone at the site has been disconnected and its web site indicated it is closing soon.

The center was a drop-off for gently used clothing, pots, pans, toys, electronics and small appliances. The donated items, tax deductible, were shipped to and resold at the Alcott, Allegan, Benton Harbor, Kalamazoo, Milham, Paw Paw, Plainwell, Sturgis and Three Rivers locations. It was open Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Vicki Duthler Cooper of Shear Concepts said she and her associates haven’t decided yet what to do with the former Goodwill building.

“I thought they received a lot of donations at this site,” she said. “One day they just packed up and left. They still had about three weeks lease left.

“We may expand the salon or we may white box it and just lease.”

Cooper said plans may have a lot to do with what happens to the former Cars2Go site, which has been vacant for more than a year. She noted Michigan Gas Utilities was on the location, but city officials have said there are no plans for the huge site with parking lot as yet.
