Small celebration slated for John Funk, 86, of Dorr

John Funk Jr., age 86, of Dorr, died Tuesday, July 23.

John is survived by his wife of 19 years, Sharon Funk, ; step-parents, Richard and Irene Ward; his children, Amy and Vaughn Frentz, Lisa Giammalva, Jeff Funk and Angie Gensler, Bobby and Val Satterfield, and Chris and Chelsea Satterfield.

He is also survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Barb and Ron Smith and David and Jonie Johnson. John was preceded in death by his loving parents, John and Margaret Funk.

John lived his 86 years to the fullest. Wherever John was, his guitar was always in hand. He played in the band 3 J’s plus 1 and even played at the Grand Ole Opry.

He enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers and was a southpaw pitcher in his younger years for his high school baseball team. John also enjoyed fishing so much that he and Sharon made a beautiful pond in their backyard. John spent much of his life traveling the United States. He also loved playing cards and entertaining all those around him.

John was a wonderful father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
