Some WHS students taken ill at Homecoming dance

Several students were reported to have gotten sick Saturday evening at the Wayland High School homecoming dance, but officials said all of the afflicted teens were back in school this week.

Wayland City Police officers who were present noticed some children becoming sick, mostly with nausea. Officers took samples from food and drink served at the event, but results of tests haven’t been returned.

“We are still in the process of investigating the situation and are working with the Wayland City Police Department, said Superintendent Dr. Christina Hinds. “To our knowledge, all students are back in school. We are taking this seriously as it impacts the health of our students. I will be providing an update to families and staff within the next couple of days.”

Local police also are going through social media posts to see if there are any leads. They ask any parents whose children became sick to call (269) 673-3899 or (269) 792-2254.
