A special Wayland Board of Education meeting is planned for 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, at the Wayland High School Fine Arts Center to discuss the district’s handling of the Covid-19 health crisis and learning plan.
The Fine Arts Center’s capacity limit is 160 in person, but citizens are welcome to participate virtually via Zoom by going to  https://waylandunion.zoom.us/j/83630306939 Meeting ID:
836 3030 6939 Passcode: 620845.
People will be able to participate in public comment in person or via Zoom.
The special meeting is being called in the wake of some parents and citizens maintaining the schools should open up to in-person classroom instruction five days a week. Wayland currently is using a hybrid approach, in which one group of students attend Mondays and Thursdays, the other Tuesdays and Fridays and all on-line Wednesdays.
Some  citizens and parents indicated Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s executive orders regarding Covid-19 have been ruled unconstitutional by the Michigan Supreme Court, so schools should no longer follow the strict guidelines.
