Candidates for 72nd District state representative and Sixth District U.S. Congress will be special guests at a political event from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Wayland City Park.

On hand will be Lily Cheng-Schulting, who is challenging incumbent Republican Steve Johnson for the 72nd District seat in Lansing. State Rep. Jon Hoadley, who is challenging incumbent Republican Fred Upton for the Sixth Congressional District, will offer support as well.

A spokeswoman for the Wayland Dems group, sponsor of the event, said, “The time is now to volunteer to help our candidates get over the finish line. Yes, COVID has challenged us to the core and slowed some of us down, but not our candidates. They are on a roll. With Election Day, Tuesday Nov. 3, fast approaching, our candidates need our active support now more than ever.”

Cheng-Schulting, who won the Democratic primary for state representative Aug. 4, will be at the Wayland City Park’s Cherry Street Pavilion to meet supporters and answer questions. She will deliver remarks at 11:30 a.m.

The spokeswoman added, “If you haven’t had the chance to meet Lily at some of our recent WayDems events and would like to have a sense of her dedication and learn more about her go to, https://.lilyformichigan.com.”

Jon Hoadley, the Democratic candidate for the US Congressional 6th District of Michigan also will be present and supporting Lily’s campaign.

“When Jon found out WayDems were hosting an event for Lily he asked if he could join the effort to support Lily, the spokeswoman added. “What a great opportunity for area democrats to speak to both candidates and help them reach that finish line in November.”

The event is open to all community members who are interested in supporting Democratic candidates and values. Those attending are asked to use a face mask and socially distance.
