Wayland Union Schools, local businesses and the Henika Library for the third straight summer plan to offer a series of fun, summer events where a free meal will be provided for children ages 18 and under.

Beginning Wednesday, June 14, there will be opportunities for students to take part in fun, free events in the Wayland area. Lunch will be served immediately following the special events listed below unless otherwise stated. Adults may purchase lunch for $3 and is served free to children.

Sponsors this year include A-1 Asphalt, Scott Bloom Optometrist, Chartwells, Chemical Bank, Clark Hill, Pro Mow Lawncare, Reno Agency, Triangle Construction, Tower Pinkster, Wayland Chamber, Wayland Do It Best Hardware, Wayland Union Education Foundation, Hungry Howies, Oetman Excavating and Hastings City Bank. The program’s partners are Henika Library, Hunters Glen, Sawmill Estates, and Windsor Woods Village.

Free lunches will be served Monday through from Friday, June 14, until Aug. 18 (closed July 3-7) at a variety of locations — Steeby Elementary School, Hunters Glen Trailer Park, Sawmill Estates, and Windsor Woods Village.

Besides the free meals, fun, free events will be offered to the community:

• Bounce Party — Wednesday, June 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wayland City Park. Kids will have lots of fun playing on large inflatables. DJ and free ice cream treat. Free lunch, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Playtime in the Park — Thursday, June 15 at 11 a.m., Wayland City Park. Free book for each family. For children ages birth to 5, older siblings are welcome to join! Free lunch noon to 12:30 p.m.
• Bob Kanegis, storyteller — Tuesday, June 20 at 10:30 a.m., Steeby Elementary. Free lunch, 11:30 a.m. to noon.
• Cirque Amongus — Wednesday, June 21, at 10:45 a.m., Steeby Elementary. Unicycling, juggling, comedy, magic and more. As seen on “Little Big Shots.” Lunch 11:30 to noon.
• Water Wonders — Tuesday, June 27, at 10:30 a.m., Henika Library.  Lunch served at Steeby, 11:30 to Noon.

• Outdoor Discovery Center – Tuesday, July 11, at 10:30 a.m., Steeby Elementary. Lunch from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

• Playtime in the Park — Thursday, July 13 at 11:00am @ Wayland City Park.  Free book for each family. For children age birth to 5, older siblings are welcome to join!  Lunch Noon-12:30pm
Art Attack! Tuesday, July 18 at 10:30am @ Henika Library.  Make a variety of fun art projects. Lunch at Steeby Elem. 11:30am – Noon
The Storytellers: Music and Stories from Around the World – Wednesday, August 9 at 10:30am @ Steeby Elementary. Lunch at 11:30-Noon.
Playtime in the Park – Thursday, August 10 at 11:00am @ Wayland City Park. Free book for each family. For children age birth to 5, older siblings are welcome to join!  Lunch Noon-12:30pm
Joel’s Book Builder Magical Comedy Show – Wednesday, Aug. 16, 10:45 a.m., Steeby Elementary. Lunch from 11:30-noon.
• Kiwanis Kids Day, Saturday, Aug. 26, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wayland City Park. Lunch, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
