Young people up to age 18 in the Wayland Union school system are eligible to receive free meals this summer, beginning June 10,

The Summer “Fun-Tastic” program also will include special events in August.

Food pickups are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Thursday from June 10 to Aug. 12 at the Wayland High School Fine Arts Center and at Hunter’s Glen near Moline. Each bag will include seven breakfasts and seven lunches, as prepared by the school district’s food service.

Steeby Elementary will have breakfasts from 8 to 8:30 a.m. and lunches at 11:30 Monday through Friday from June 21 to Aug. 13, with meals available July 3 or July 5.

Comedian-entertainer Cameron Zvara will present a program at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4 at Steeby and magician-comedian Joel’s Reading Ranger will perform at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at the elementary.

The third summer program will be a “Return to Learn” carnival from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at the Wayland High School parking lot. In case of rain it will be held the following day.

The carnival will feature rides, food, dunk tank and ice cream.
