The Leighton Township Board ThursdaRon VanSingely evening awarded preliminary plat approval to the Merstone Group of Byron Center for an eight-lot single-family residential development on 144th Avenue west of Kalamazoo Avenue.

The eight lots making up the Summit Pointe development will include a private road with common ownership of residents, said Ron VanSingel, principal with the Merstone engineering firm.

“We need approval (from the Township Board) before we can begin selling lots,” explained VanSingel, who added that he has presented information about the project to the Planning Commission.

The development will have septic systems and water wells, but test results on the wells is awaited from the Allegan County Health Department.

The approval granted was contingent on requirements being met.

Van Singel said construction on the residential development should begin in just a couple of weeks.
