The old Dick’s Market sign in front of what is now Leppink’s on 142nd Avenue in Dorr came down to make way for the new owners. Founder Dick Dutkiewicz’s son Steve commented on Facebook, “It’s hard not to be emotional at this moment but to put things in perspective. Even though the big sign is coming down the things that really matter inside the market remain. The Bratwurst Kielbasa and Smokehouse Specialties will live on past my time as will many of the Deli made dishes. I have a few weeks remaining as consultant to the Leppinks and I believe they will do a good job of keeping that part of Dick and Steve Dutkiewicz’ legacy going for everyone.” The Leppink’s chain owners purchased the grocery earlier this year, marking the end of a more than 65-year-old local food store.

“It’s hard not to be emotional at this moment" Steve certainly wasn't emotional when he did the private back door deal with the Lippinks not giving his family any chance of buying the family business. I am glad Dick isn't around to see this debacle. We are blessed that Dorr will still have a grocery store. Question unrelated to this story, David when is Culvers opening at the Big Boy location? Cheers!!
