Tragedy and ComedyStudents from Wayland Union High School will perform “The Outsiders” for their spring play, directed by language arts and drama instructor Rebecca Black.

“The Outsiders” is an adaptation by Christopher Sergel of S.E. Hinton’s popular coming of age novel of the same name. The story centers on a rivalry between the tough, underprivileged “Greasers” and the have-it-made rich kids, the “Socs,” in a drama about the struggle of finding the “gold” in life.

Wayland Middle School eighth-graders read the novel, and the entire seventh and eighth grade class will be attending a matinee of the performance.

Public performances are at 7 p.m. Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2, and at 3 p.m. at  Sunday, May 3. Admission is free.

The performances will be at Wayland Union Fine Arts Center, 870 E. Superior St., Wayland. For more information, call 269-792-2254.
