A 26-year-old motorcyclist from Grandville was killed Tuesday evening in a traffic crash on the U.S.-131 expressway beteen the Martin. and Shelbyville exits.

Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies said they were working a crash with minor injuries on US131 NB between the 56 and 57 mile markers in Martin Township and traffic was backed up due to the crash. A north-bound motorcycle was unable to stop and avoid a stopped SUV and struck the SUV in the rear.

The rider was ejected and tended to by many other motorists until Emergency Services arrived on scene. The motorcycle rider, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Speed and distracted driving are believed to have contributed to the cause of the crash.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Martin Fire Department and Plainwell EMS.
