Trustee Chandler Stanton resigns from Dorr Twp. Board

Dorr Township Board Trustee Chandler Stanton, who also was a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals, has resigned both posts after serving for more than five years.

Stanton was first elected trustee in 2020 and ran unopposed in 2024.

He and Supervisor Jeff Miling often have been at loggerheads on local issues and their differences have been evident in meetings. Most recently he spearheaded having a special meeting earlier this month on prospects for an unpopular Microsoft data center coming to the township at two sites.

Otherwise, it isn’t clear what the reason is for Stanton’s action. Townbroadcast reached out to two local officials, but has not received a response.

Stanton also was the key public figure in investigating former Treasurer Myrna Marr, accusing her of mismanaging money. Marr resigned and appeared in court in the matter.

Stanton indicated his resignation is effective Thursday, Feb. 19. The Township Board, meanwhile, will be tasked with finding a successor for a term that will expire in November 2028. However, it is possible that the person appointed may face election in the August or November elections.

The Township Board next Thursday night also will deal with proposals for pay raises. Proposed pay for the supervisor, clerk and treasurer will be a 2.8% increase, from $42,612.42 to $43,848.18 annually, and the trustees’ stipends to be raised from $4,261.87 to $4,385.46 per year, also 2.8 percent

But perhaps the biggest anticipation will be for the board to impose a temporary moratorium on any requests involving new or expanded data centers, which has been a particularly hot issue over the last couple of months. Interestingly, Microsoft representatives have not come forward with any proposals, though tech giant now owns two parcels within the township.

The issues has been very visible in many other muncipalities in West Michigan, with many residents insisting the centers will siphon off water.

The Township Board also will be asked to grant Great Lakes Excavating a special use permit for gravel mining.

The meeting will one held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at the new township hall on 142nd Avenue.
