There was a lot of commotion in Hopkins Wednesday when two suspects were arrested for allegedly stealing a vehicle and running away from authorities.

Michigan State Police troopers from the Wayland post were summoned to the village on a report of a stolen vehicle. When they arrived, they spotted the described vehicle and decided to give chase. Police said the two were able to evade and eventually escape, but the stolen vehicle was found unoccupied later in the afternoon.

Officers then were told by citizens a man had broken into a nearby home and they tried to contact the homeowner, but she ran out of the house and said there was a stranger inside. Authorities said the man crawled onto the roof, but later surrendered.

A second suspect in the incident was apprehended a few blocks away.
