Two of 3 local millage requests lose in Nov. 3 election

The Allegan County tax limitation proposal in the Nov. 3 election was passed, but two area township millage requests were turned down.

The Allegan County tax limitation proposal passed 33,442 to 23,091. Sets county-wide millage rates at 5.7 mills general, 1.07 townships, 0.14 intermediate school districts, for a total of 6.91 mills.

Hopkins Township dust control millage lost 899 to 539. The proposal was for up to 0.35 mill for six years to pay for public gravel roads.

Leighton Township one-mill request for roads lost 1,886 to 1,691. The proposal was for one mill for five years for public improvement and maintenance of roads.
