Wayland High School students Teagan Robinson and Mason Babiak were nominated and had their applications selected this past spring to serve on the Michigan Department of Education’s Student Advisory Council for the 2025–2026 academic year.

This advisory council brings together high school students from across the state to share perspectives and provide feedback on MDE initiatives and policies.
Teagan and Mason, as council members, will take part in monthly meetings and join workgroups focused on key educational topics.
The council each year has the opportunity to set its own focus areas. Previous topics have included safe space implementation in schools, student mental health and engagement, diverse literature, comprehensive history instruction, and environmental sustainability through green school efforts.
A school district spokesperson said, “We are thrilled that Teagan and Mason will have the chance to collaborate directly with Michigan’s State Superintendent and the MDE Student Advisory Council team.
“Congratulations to both students on this incredible opportunity to lead and make a difference!”
