A groundbreaking was held Friday for a $5.5 million renovation of United Bank of Michigan’s corporate headquarters at 900 East Paris, Grand Rapids.
The bank, which opened as Wayland State Bank in 887, is located in Grand Rapids Township just off I-96. It will continue to be a full-service bank with commercial and mortgage-lending services after renovations are complete.
United Bank Chairman and CEO Art Johnson, a 1968 graduate of Wayland High School, said in a prepared statement, “As part of our commitment to this community, we are supporting the West Michigan economy by using all local contractors on this project. In an age when many community banks are letting go of local ownership, this project reflects United Bank’s further commitment to serve West Michigan.”
Project completion date for the 300,000-square-foot facility has not been announced.
