The United Church of Wayland, 411 E. Superior St., is offering a varety of services to help financially challenged people with the demands of the holiday.
In a prepared statement, a spokerson for the church wrote:
“The holiday season, coupled with the rising costs of seemingly everything, is making it difficult for many to handle day-to-day expenses. Programs designed to assist our community with basic needs are being sought out in increasing numbers. This is true at local food pantries, discounted clothing stores, service organizations and at outreach programs of the United Church of Wayland.
“Those in need can find free clothing there for all ages the first and third Thursdays of the month, 4 to 6 p.m. The Food Truck, sponsored by area churches through Feeding America of West Michigan, delivers free food for the food challenged the third Friday of each month to the church from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
“Wayland Community Quilters donate their quilts to several local charity organizations including Wings of Hope Hospice and the Linus Project.
“Anyone interested in volunteering for programs offered by the United Church of Wayland are very welcome and much needed to meet increasing demands.
“One way the United Church of Wayland covers the cost of delivering these services is through rental of office space in their building. Currently there are 23X15 feet of office space with attached bath and private entry and plenty of parking, which can be expanded to double the size if needed. The space is available to renters Monday through Friday, preferably to non-profit organizations.
“Call the church office at 269-792-2155 if you have questions about the service programs or with interest in renting the office space.”
