Viking boys win Hamilton track meet, girls take 2nd

Monday was a good day to run track for Hopkins.

The Viking bots captured first place in the Hamilton Early Season Invitational with 168 points and the girls took second behind the Grand Rapids Track Club Falcons.

Particularly impressive was Hopkins’ sweep of the top three places in the 400-meter run. Jack Estelle won the race with a time of 53.21 seconds and teammates Austin Evans and Isaiah Robinson were second and third, respectively.

Kash Moored then crossed the finish line first in the 800 with a time of 2:04.21, Clayton Kerber won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 41.10, and Wyatt Runkel, Gage Martin Parker Warner and Kerber took first in the 800-meter relay in 1:36.03.

Noah Opolski was first in the discus with a toss of 132-1 and was second in the shot put.

Sophomore Dexter Graczyk was runner-up in the high jump with a promising 5-10. Gracyin Ingle and Luke Kling both cleared 11-0 in the pole vault to claim the top two slots and Parker Warners leaped to a first place in the long jump at 19-11.5.

School record breaking sprinter Riley Homrich continued to dominated in her races, taking first in the 100-meter dash at 12.98 seconds, 

Lillian Dewey was second in the 800 and fourth in the 1600, Andrea Brower took second in the 100-meter hurdles and was second in the 300 hurdles, and Keilah Bonga was a double winner in the shot put at 29-11 and the discus at 116-9.
