
Hopkins boys finished 15th and Wayland 17th Friday night in the Starlight Division of the Under the Lights cross-country races at South Christian High School’s athletic complex.
The Lady Vikings later in the evening placed 11th and the Wildcats 12th in that same division.
Featured in the competition was Hopkins senior Jack Estelle, who was runner-up to individual champion Landon Rogers of Three Oaks River Valley, who crossed the 5K finish line in 16:08.7. Estelle’s time was 16:17.9.
Viking senior Kash Moored checked in 21st with a time of 17:16.3. Gavin Schans 140th, Cole Verstrate was 145th and Logan Kipen 161st.
Overall there were 281 runners who finished the race.
Lillian Dewey paved the Hopkins girls by finishing the 5,000 meters in 21:26.5, good for 29th place. She was followed by Isabella Jordan in 56th, Allison Breining 57th, Grace Schumaker 90th and Shyanna Buskirk 105th.
Junior Mason Fein was Wayland’s top runner of the evening, capturing 22nd place in 17:16.4. Senior Ethan Manning was 34th, Carter Bultje 148th, Jackson Byers 198th and Shane Krasinski 254th.
Freshman Madison Bumhoffer led the Wildcat girls for the second time this season, taking 25th place in 21:16.9. Sophomore Abree VandenBrink was 46th, Ryleigh Haveman 82nd, Sophia Miller 101st and Elyana Jurkowski 150th.
It was a huge meet in terms of participation, with four divisions each in the boys’ and girls’ races.
