Charles A. Newhouse of Gunphoto_20160203_WM0059784_0_newhouse_charles_20160203 Lake died, Sunday, Jan. 31, in Naples, Fla.
Chuck was born Aug. 5, 1937, in Muskegon, the son of Jacob and Grace (Rop) Newhouse. He was united in marriage to Ruth (VanDenBerg) Newhouse on June 24, 1961. Chuck was raised in Kalamazoo, graduating from Kalamazoo Christian High School in 1955.
He worked as a businessman, tending fields and selling flowers in the family nursery, Newhouse Nursery. Chuck, who lived at Gun Lake for more than 40 years, enjoyed the beauty of the lake and its community. An avid fisherman, he spent hours with friends and family out on the lake.
He was a devoted member of Gun Lake Community Church and loved listening to gospel music. He was a faithful fan of University of Michigan sports and Tigers’ baseball. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, and they shared many happy memories together.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth,  his brother Larry (Pam) Newhouse, and his sister Marcia Tuinstra. Also surviving are his five children: Karla (Al) Colestock of Portage, MI; Laurel (Mike) Drew of Estherville, IA; Michael (Tammie) Newhouse of Middleville, MI; David (Heather) Newhouse of Durham, NC; Brian (Melanie) Newhouse of Tipp City, OH; and his grandchildren: Kristin and Andrea Colestock; Alyssa, Eric, and Evan Drew; Matthew Newhouse; Trevor and Nicole Newhouse; Isaac, Carter, Logan, and Alexander Newhouse, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Alan Newhouse, and his brother-in-law, Darwin Tuinstra.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb 5, and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Gun Lake Community Church, 12200 W. M-179 Hwy, Wayland. A service celebrating Chuck’s life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, Feb 6, at the church. Pastor Dan Beyer will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park in Kalamazoo.
Memorial contributions may be made in Chuck’s memory to Gun Lake Community Church, Building Improvement Fund. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Langeland Family Funeral Homes.
