Douglas P. Spangenberg, age 61, of Wayland died unexpectedly Monday, Oct. 12.

A life-time auto mechanic, Doug had the gift of being able to listen to a car and tell you exactly what was wrong with it. When Doug wasn’t working on cars, he enjoyed the great outdoors, and had a keen interest in history.

He was a committed, loving father, and will be dearly missed by his two children, Justin Spangenberg and Sarah Smith; two grandchildren, Heath Baker and Maven Spangenberg; his mother, Marilyn Spangenberg; brothers and sisters, Ted (Sheryl) Spangenberg, Rhonda (Dan) Cooper, Beverly (Doug) Scherer, Brian (Keri) Spangenberg; lots and lots of nieces and nephews; and long-time companion, Barbara Morris.

His father, Paul, and brother, Steven, preceded him in death.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 8th St., Cutlerville. A private committal service and interment will take place at Fairplains Cemetery.
