Tylor Schurkamp has been appointed to a vacant seat on the Watson Township Planning Commission.
She introduced herself and was approved by the Township Board Thursday evening. She succeeds Planning Commission Chairman Brad Stalker, who resigned last month.
In other business at the meeting Thursday, the Township Board:
- Approved the special assessment rolls for fire department operations and equipment, as conducted by the Hopkins and Martin emergency personnel. The one-mill levy was approved after a public hearing, in which no one attended or commented.
- Noted that expenses are going up for mileage allowances, from 50 to 70 cents per mile, for Consumers Energy doubling rates because of the excessive heat this summer, and even an increase for its annual subscription to the Allegan County News & Gazette.
- Scheduled a grand opening for the Seven Generations Recreation Park near M-222 and 20th Street for 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8.
- Adopted a resolution creating a Parks Advisory Commission that currently includes former board member John Caras and current board trustee Michelle Harris. Needed are a couple of unelected citizens to serve.
- Learned from Supervisor Kevin Travis who said former Clerk Kelli Morris spotted a cougar recently.
