The Watson Township Board Thursday evening accepted the low bid from M.W. Moore & Sons for $9,700 for mowing services for the township hall and cemeteries.

Watson Township Supervisor Pam Brown said there were three bids for the work The township last year had contracted with Dave Kok and DK Landscape Management for $9,835.

Moore & Sons last year submitted a lower bid than DK Landscape, but the board voted to spend the extra $35 because Kok had served the township before as cemetery sexton.

Trustee Chuck Andrysiak said a year ago that he preferred to do business with a company that had done the work before, which would include DK Landscape.

Trustee Rod Zeinstra, Andrysiak and Clerk Kellie Morris all voted for DK Landscape, despite the added cost of $35, a year ago. Supervisor Pam Brown abstained because in 2015 her son was one of the bidders.
