Wayland 8th-grader wins Allegan County Regional Spelling Bee

Brennan Grimes, an eighth-grader from Wayland Union Middle School, was winner of the Allegan County Regional Spelling Bee . Runner-up was Lily Ehn, an L.E. White Middle School eighth-grader in Allegan.  The spelling bee was a short one with only five rounds. There were 12 spellers from grades 5-8 representing six schools in three districts.  There was also one round of vocabulary where the students had to select the correct definition of a given word. Brennan’s championship word was “fragile.”  She will move on to the next round at the Gerald R Ford Museum auditorium in Grand Rapids at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10.
