The Wayland High School debate team was host for the second West Michigan Legislative Debate League this fall on Wednesday, Oct. 25.

Students were engaged in congressional debate with schools from across the area sharing in academic discussion surrounding the student-written legislation.

Wayland debaters continued their winning record and swept the competition, bringing home the top six awards and several other impressive honors:

• Varsity Member – First place.

• Novice Ari Rohde – Second place and Top Novice Award.

• Novice Lorelei Beckwith – Third place.

• Varsity Wren Alonzo – Fourth place.

• Varsity Hannah Roberts and Percy Ward – Tied for fifth place

• Varsity Jonny Safro and Tyler Tylk, and novice Dylan Featherly – tied for sixth place.

• Varsity Alex Oosterhouse received an award for being a presiding officer for the first time and placed seventh.

Novice Brooklyn Armstrong placed eighth at her first-ever competition.
