The Wayland City Council Monday night adopted a fiscal year 2019-20 budget that will add almost $100,000 to the fund balance.

The council unanimously after a public hearing approved anticipated revenues of $2,576,708 in the general fund budget, expenditures pegged at $2,476,776 and nearly about a $100,000 figure of revenue over expenses.

City Treasurer Cheri Parrish said the fund balance’s growth as a result is expected to $740.094.30.

City Manager Josh Eggleston said, “There is a decrease on the expense side. Revenues that went to the fire department now are going to a special fire fund, so that’s not a decrease but a shift. We’re fairly healthy operationally.”

However, he noted the city must remain fiscally vigilant because some expenses loom on the horizon, such as a new truck, a new mower for the sewer pons and a “gator” for the Department of Public Works.

This is not to mention continuing street projects. He said City Engineer Mickey Bittner is expected to outline next year’s repairs and paving on Park Street near Dahlia at the July 15 meeting.

In other business at Monday evening’s meeting, the council:

• Approved requests for temporary outdoor service permits for Open Road Brewery, McDuff’s and the Hotel to serve alcohol on the street during the Summerfest celebration July 20.
• Was told by Bittner there’s a good chance that paving will commence on this year’s street projects, Marlo Lane, Geneva Drive and Galaxy Estates, in the middle to the end of July.
• Duly noted, with thanks, that Downtown development Chairwoman Kelle Tobolic has stepped in to do the Main Street director’s job of Ingrid Miller after she left her post recently for a new job Grand Rapids.
