Wayland City Clerk Lee Ann Clausen this week submitted her resignation after serving for five years.
Clausen, who came to Wayland in September 2020 from North Muskegon, cited medical issues as the reason for her decision. She has been suffering from a neurological disease that has forced her to use a wheelchair for more than a year.
Originally from Fremont, where she graduated from high school. Ms. Clausen also has completed some coursework in business administration at Baker College. She had extensive experience with the City of Fremont serving on various boards and commissions such as the DDA Board, Baby Food Festival Committee and the Downtown Fremont Retailers Association.
Ms. Clausen served as deputy clerk and then city clerk for the City of North Muskegon for five years. She most recently served as an elections contractor with the City of Norton Shores.
Ms. Clausen also was president of the Allegan County Clerks Association and was active in recruiting musical groups to play at the City Park stage on four Friday evenings in August.
She has moved back to the Muskegon area.
She stepped aside from the clerk’s post a little more than a year ago and was succeeded temporarily by retiring Wayland Township Clerk Ann McInerny. Deputy Clerk Joyce Jenkins has been serving as interim clerk for most of this year and she handled the November city election.
The city plans to post the job opening and Jenkins has indicated an interest in serving.
