Wayland City Manager Tim McLean is leaving his post at the end of this week and he’s getting married Sept. 8. The two events are connected.
McLean, who has served in Wayland since February 2016, and his bride will be living in the Detroit area because she has accepted a partnership in a business in that area.
Mayor Tim Bala quipped, “I think his bride is getting a wonderful dog sitter.”
McLean’s last day will be Friday, Aug. 25, and he and the city came up with a separation agreement in which he will be available on an as-needed basis for the next 90 days while the city searches for his successor.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the City of Wayland,” McLean told the City Council Monday night. “I think the city is moving in the right direction.”
He hasn’t yet found a job on the east side of the state, but he and his fiance came to an agreement in which they would live in the Detroit area.
“I hope you can find a job that’s a little closer to your wife,” said Councilwoman Jennifer Antel. “I know it’s been a long commute for you.”
McLean came to Wayland after serving as assistant city manager for the City of Jonesville near Jackson.
This City changes managers as more often than I change my socks.
