Wayland Fire Chief in hospital after cardiac emergency

City of Wayland Fire Chief Jim Stoddard is a patient at the Butterworth campus of Corewell Health Systems in Grand Rapids.

Stoddard had a medical emergency Friday while driving a vehicle to attend a wedding. He received immediate attention and was taken to Butterworth as a result.

The Wayland Fire Department Sunday posted, “The Wayland Fire Department requests prayers from the community for Fire Chief Jim Stoddard, who had a cardiac emergency and is currently in the critical care unit at Butterworth Hospital. Chief Stoddard has always selflessly cared for our community and now needs our prayers in return.

“We understand that our community is incredibly generous and supportive, so the question ‘what can we do to help?’ will inevitably arise. At this time, we request all to uplift Chief Stoddard, his family and his medical team in your prayers. Should a physical need arise, we will post here. The prayers and support from the community for Chief Stoddard is greatly appreciated.
