Wayland FloralVeterans' storeIt is probable that Wayland Floral & Gifts, 118 W. Superior St., will no longer be in business after Friday, Dec. 31.

Co-owners Rick and Cindy Mathis, who opened the shop in May 2014, have indicated that if they are unable to sell the business, they will close its doors just before the start of the new year.

Rick Mathis, who is a member of the Wayland City Council, told the Penasee Globe this past week that the reason for the closing is not lack of business and that the shop has grown in its more than a year and a half in downtown Wayland. He said he and his wife were making the move to spend more time with their family.

Meanwhile, just a couple of doors down on West Superior, the former location of Wayland Floral & Gift, Inc., is now vacant, but word on the street is that the thrift shop closely associated with military veterans will move its home from next door to Snap Fitness to the building immediately to the east of the Hastings City Bank location.
