Wayland Union Schools this summerchartwells-account-of-year was named the Chartwells Account of the Year for the Great Lakes Region which is made up of 168 school districts.

The district was selected for their high student participation and extra activities offered, particularly the summer “Funtastic” free meals programs for local students under 18 years old, offering free meals to nearly 9,000 children each year.

Wayland Schools Food Service Director Sarah Hawkins emphasizes food and nutrition education through cafeteria and classroom activities and connections. Seasonal campaigns and monthly promotions and events encourage students to explore new flavors and learn more about the food they eat. Some examples include making banana yogurt splits for breakfast and making cookies to teach math concepts.
