A 44-year-old Wayland man was seriously hurt in a traffic crash this morning on the U.S.-131 expressway just north of the Wayland exit.
Deputies with the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department said they were summoned to the freeway near 138th Avenue in Leighton Township, where they found a motorist trapped inside a car that had left the roadway. Deputies said they believe the motorist may have struck a much larger vehicle from behind, perhaps a semi-truck with a driver who wasn’t aware of the incident occurring.
The southbound lane on US-131 was closed between the 67-mile marker and the 66-mile marker south of the Dorr exit while the reconstruction team conducted an investigation. The road since has been reopened.
