Jacob Scot Damron of Wayland earlier this week pleaded no contest to two counts of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs causing death in connection with a traffic crash last July 17 that killed a newlywed couple in Heath Township.

In exchange for the no contest pleas, prosecutors agreed to drop five other charges in the case.

Authorities have alleged that Damron failed to stop at the intersection of M-40 and 128th Avenue south of Hamilton, causing a crash that killed 24-year-old Logan Allbaugh of Holland and his wife, 22-year-old Hannah Mae Allbaugh of Zeeland, who had been married just 25 days before the incident.

A third person, Duane McDonald, also was injured in the traffic crash.

Blood tests indicated that Damron had seven nanograms of THC in his blood and they showed he had fluoxetine, a medication used to treat attention disorders, in his system. Sheriff’s authorities said the two substances combined had a sedative effect on Damron to impair his ability to drive.
