Wayland Middle School science teacher Laura Foster was fortunate to be chosen to attend the NEH Landmark Workshop: Space Age on the Space Coast.

Lori Howell, one of her sixth grade teaching colleagues, attended last year and encouraged Foster to apply and she described the experience as being “absolutely amazing, jaw-dropping, inspirational, educational and humbling!”

Some of the highlights of her five-day stay were learning about the history of the area, space and technology; meeting two shuttle astronauts and a shuttle launch director; getting behind the scene tours the pubic doesn’t get, learning about the delicate ecosystems along the coast, doing a bioluminescence tour, and seeing rare historical artifacts.

On top of all of that, she said she enjoyed the experience with other educators from all over the country. It was a unique opportunity to expand their education during summer break.
