West Superior Street was closed in Wayland Monday morning between Burger King and Reno Drive after a pedestrian was struck and killed.
Wayland police said Dwayne Goodman, 59, was hit by a pickup truck around 7:20 a.m. on West Superior near the U.S.-131 expressway. Officers who responded to the call said they found the man lying in the roadway with “significant injuries. He was taken to a Grand Rapids hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
It is believed Goodman was walking to start his work day at Harding’s Friendly Markets.
Police indicated they don’t believe alcohol, drugs or weather conditions were a factor in the crash. The investigation is continuing by the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office, which is working to reconstruct the crash to determine the cause.
