Wayland police run studies to help in school bus stops

The Wayland City Police Department earlier this month staged at a few bus stops to make sure drivers didn’t run through the red flashing lights on stopped school buses.

“We do this during school bus safety week and sporadically throughout the school year,” explained Chief Mark Garnsey.

Wayland Union Schools Transportation Supervisor Tim Washburn printed out maps and directed officers to stops that have had some issues.

“Thankfully there were no violations during our observations for the week,” Garnsey said. “The drivers report while there are some red light violators, thankfully occurrences are down substantially.”
