Wayland schools earns grant to help at-risk students

Wayland Union Schooimage001ls was awarded a grant for $40,425 from the Michigan Department of Education to offer academic support to at-risk students in grades K-3.

Additional support will come in the way of academic “camp” sessions during winter break, spring break and summer break.

“Providing support for students this way will allow us to focus on students in need of extra reading support,” said Director of Instruction Teresa Fulk. “We will be partnering with the summer meals program to provide students with breakfast and lunch during these academic camps. Students will also be provided with transportation to and from the program.”

The three-day camps will run Tuesday through Thursday of each week during winter break Dec. 20-22 and Dec. 27-29; spring break, April 4-6, and during summer break the weeks of July 11-Aug. 10. Parents of students identified for this program will be contacted in November to register.
