Michael John Batt, 35, a Wayland Union Schools employee, has been charged with possessing and producing child pornography on his computer.

Michigan State Police said Batt was arrested on eight counts Thursday, including two counts of producing child porn, four counts of aggravated distribution of child porn, one count of aggravated possession of child porn, and one count of using a computer to commit a crime.

Wayland Schools Supt. Tim Reeves confirmed that Batt was indeed an employee as a network supervisor, but the alleged offenses were committed off school property and there is no information that indicates any involvement with school staff or students.

An undercover investigation into Batt’s online activity at his home in Jenison led to his arrest. Police searched his home and found evidence that was confiscated by police. He is now in the Ottawa County Jail.

Batt immediately was placed on administrative leave and is not allowed on school property during the investigation.

“While the issues do not involve the district, we have high expectations for the conduct of our employees and expect employees to engage in professional behaviors that reflect the mission and values of our community,” said District Superintendent Tim Reeves. “When behaviors are not aligned with district expectations, we will take all appropriate action, which may include disciplinary action or termination.”
