Wayland schools Thursday morning were placed under a “Shelter in Place” condition after a suspicious individual was spotted near the high school and middle school driving a black Suburban.
Wayland Police were immediately called and arrived at the high school to investigate.
As a precaution, Wayland Union Schools (except Dorr Elementary) were put in “Shelter in Place,” which means that the building is locked but normal activities can go on within the building. No one is allowed in or out of the building.
After the police interviewed the individual, they determined there was not a threat and the shelter in place was lifted.
An official statement from school officials said, “Safety of our students is always our number one priority and we take any incident seriously with necessary precautions.”
