Steeby snowThough there was no school called Sunday evening, parking lots for Wayland schools were not plowed as of Monday evening.

Councilwoman Jennifer Antel Monday night at the City Council meeting noted the middle school and high parking lots were so clogged that she and her family had to park on Wildcat Drive to get to the sledding hill near the tennis courts Monday afternoon. She added that she didn’t believe the lots had been plowed as of Monday evening when the council started its meeting.

The school district, she said, fired the service providing snow removal and salting because they failed to show earlier this winter immediately after a snowstorm.

Indeed, the district put out a request for bids for the services on Jan. 14, with a mandatory pre-bid meeting date of Jan. 28. The proposal due date was Feb. 17, so as of now the district does not have a service with a contract to do the work.

City Manager Mike Selden said despite comments made to the contrary, the City of Wayland did not handle plowing and salting after the past storm.

UPDATE: There were reports that plows appeared to be working at the Baker Elementary parking lot just after 9:30 p.m. Monday and at other school parking lots late Monday afternoon.
