Wayland students get a little help with supply purchases

Wayland Union Schools, through Gun Lake Tribe/Casino in-lieu of taxes funds, is providing teachers with funds to provide elementary students with school supplies so parents don’t have to purchase them.

Third grade teacher Christine Zimmerman Shafer said, “It is an amazing benefit to our district families. Teachers are allowed to have an approved project wishlist as well. I’m hoping to provide indoor recess/STEM activities, fidget/sensory items for student needs, and incentive/prizes for student motivation so that I’m not buying out of pocket.”

She added that these projects are beyond the funds supplied by the district and allow teachers to do even more for their students.

“I can’t tell you what the support and generosity means,” she concluded.
