The Wayland Township Planning Commission’s public hearing Wednesday on Blazing Star Solar LLC’s application for a special use permit has been called off.
Wayland Township Trustee Matt Miner, a member of the Planning Commission, told colleagues Monday night that the hearing was postponed because of improper noticing. Blazing Star has plans to build what is commonly referred to as a solar farm.on property current zoned agricultural.
However, the Planning Commission plans to have its regular meeting Wednesday at 7 p.m. to conduct business.
In other business at the regular meeting Monday evening, the Township Board:
- Was told by Treasurer Sue Kamyszek that roughly only half of the township’s residents are taking advantage of the $50 yearly fee for the curbside recycling program. She said only 674 households are using the receptacles at their homes, out of more than 1,300 residences that are eligible. Trustee Matt Miner lamented, “Those who don’t use it still have pay for it.”
- Signed a new and revised agreement with the Allegan County Imagery Partnership for $5,490, or $915 per years for six years. The original contract included the wrong numbers.
- Noted that the county right now is experiencing flood or near flood conditions on local lakes and rivers. During a visit from Allegan County Drain Commissioner Chris Machiela, Supervisor Roger VanVolkinburg said this area already has exceeded the average precipitation for an entire year. Cemetery Sexton Micah Kuhtic said the rainstorms have resulted in “We’ve been picking up a lot of sticks lately (in the cemetery).”
- Learned from Kamyszek that she was elected treasurer of the Wayland Area Emergency Services Board, Steve Deer of Leighton Township was elected chairman and Mike DeWeerd of Wayland secretary.
- Held a discussion about Kuhtic getting the ball rolling on getting costs for replacing three doors at the township hall.
