WHS grad’s Michigan Tech team wins invitational

The Michigan Technological University men’s cross-country team Friday captured first place in the 21-team Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minn.

The Huskies, coached by 2003 Wayland High School graduate Robby Young, tied a 33-year-old record for scoring fewest points, with 35 and they were 65 points better than the meet’s runner-up.

Young, who was an All-American in track and cross-country at Grand Valley State University, has coached the Huskies now beginning his fifth season after guiding the Colorado Springs Rampart High School squad to nine league titles.

Michigan Tech a year ago finished 10th in the nation in the NCAA Division 2 national championship.
