Tess Tobolic, a Wayland resideTess Tobolicnt anTess on 8 Westd 2008 Wayland High School graduate, has been getting a lot of notice lately for her skills in chalk art.

A graduate of Kendall College of Art and Design and Michigan State University in Grand Rapids, she earned her degree in medical illustration.

“I got into chalk art a couple years ago and loved it so much that I do it in addition to my medical illustrations,” she explained. “It was self-taught, though I learned the artistic skills needed from my program at Kendall. I travel around Michigan doing chalk art for companies, festivals, etc., that hire me.”

She said her chalk art is done on the sidewalk and is not permanent, “which makes it a little more unique. I use the asphalt as my canvas. Rain/water will wash it away.”
