The Wayland High School marching band placed second overall and had the best percussion at the Hastings Invitational Saturday.
Band Director Kelli Tilley Smith said, “(I’m) completely exhausted, but so stinking proud of my band. They went up 7.3 points from the their last invite! We always set a goal before each show, and our goal was simply don’t let the music score drop, focus on good marching, connect with the show.”
Smith added, “I do not have a marching staff. I do not have another band teacher to work alongside me. I am fortunate enough to have two people teaching color guard, a ton of parents who care, and kids who want to succeed…”
“We had a great night at Hastings, as always! I’m so proud of these kids.”
